Botswana Agate Cabochons is a variety of banded Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Named for the area in Africa where it is mined, Botswana. It is usually banded in shades of pink and gray, though some layers may contain a muted brown or apricot. Botswana Agate is a member of the chalcedony family. Agate cabochons have a hardness of 7 and take an excellent polish. Botswana Agate gets its name from the only known source of this beautiful and interesting gemstone.
